BSB British GP2 | R9 Oulton Park

A challenging round nine at Oulton Park

The Krämer team went to Oulton Park in high spirits after already winning the GP2 Championship, with Jenner in 1st and Nixon in 2nd place. However, technical problems during Fridays practice sessions were not the start to the weekend that the team were looking for.

The determination and dedication of the Krämer team proved to be unrivalled this weekend, with nothing keeping them down for long. After working through the night on Friday, Crew Chief Ally Grant and assistant Bry Bayes completed an impressive two engine rebuilds in time for the Qualifying session on Saturday morning.

Unfortunately, the team were met with more challenges during qualifying, resulting in Jenner not being able to participate in race one in the afternoon, and race two on Sunday, due to further unforeseen technical problems.

Race one on Saturday proved to be difficult for Nixon with the lack of track time over the weekend so far, resulting in him finishing 24th overall, 1st in class.

The team woke up to wet conditions on Sunday morning, resulting in the warm up session unfortunately being terminated after only one lap, due to the track conditions and a red flag. Another setback for the Krämer team at Oulton Park.

Although starting from further back on the grid, Nixon made steady progress throughout race two. His impressive lap times and pace saw him picking off the opposition and moving further up with each lap, resulting in one of his best results of the season so far - coming in 1st in class and 13th overall. Although happy with the result, Nixons lap times would have seen him riding alongside the top five in Supersport, if qualifying had resulted in a better starting position.

Team owner Eddie Roberts comments; “Tough weekend for the team with totally unexpected issues. Ally and Bry worked their socks off to get the bikes ready for the boys. Unfortunately, there was an issue with Owens bike that couldn’t be resolved at the circuit.”

“Jack had a great ride in the feature race. Unfortunately, he was starting from well down the grid but once going he made up many places and was lapping as fast as the leaders. Onward and upward, bikes will be re-freshed for round ten at Donington Park, a favourite circuit for the team!”
