BSB British GP2 | R11 Brands Hatch

A finale to remember in tricky track conditions

The Krämer team headed to the world-famous Brands Hatch circuit for the 11th and final round of the 2024 BSB Championship over the weekend.

Temperatures dropped over the weekend with lows of 2° on Friday morning. Both riders struggled in the first free practice session with the cold conditions but managed to improve for session two in the afternoon, seeing a two-second improvement in lap times.

Qualifying sessions on Saturday morning were in tricky damp conditions which were favoured by Jenner, resulting in an impressive 4th position on the grid for the first race in the afternoon. Unfortunately, the conditions we not as favourable to Nixon who qualified further back on the grid in 29th place, leaving some more work to do in the race.

Jenner got off to an outstanding start in race one, beating Supersport leading contender Jack Kennedy to prime position going into the first corner and dominating the start of the race. Jenner and Kennedy battled back and forth for first place, proving not only the speed but impressive handling of the Krämer GP2-890RR machine and determination of Jenner. It was not long until Stapleford caught up with the duo, making it an exciting, edge-of-your-seat, three-way battle to lead the race.

Although starting further back on the grid, Nixon was also progressing impressively, making up over 10 places in the first lap. Making this one of his best starts of the season.

Unfortunately, only 6-laps into the race the weather took a turn and it started to become damper, making the track conditions harder to manage. This resulted in a multi-rider crash and red flag due to the weather conditions, brining all riders back into pit lane to await a restart.

With the unpredictable weather conditions, choosing the right tyre was difficult for the race restart. Following leading contender Stapleford, the team and riders made the decision to stay on slick tyre's for the restart, a decision they later regretted as the weather worsened.

After the warm-up lap, Nixon pulled in to do a tyre change, but with the limited time restraints, unfortunately, did not make it back on the track to start the race.

Jenner determined as ever, stayed out on slick tyres in the worsening track conditions and managed to finish the 3-lap sprint in 14th position.

Race two on Sunday took place in dryer, cooler conditions. However, due to the restart on Saturday, the grid line-up for race two was not in the team's favour. Jenner in 20th and Nixon in 32nd position.

Both riders once again made great progress throughout the race.  Jenner climbing 16 and Nixon climbing 12 places, resulting in them coming over the line in 4th and 20th overall.

Team owner Eddie Roberts comments; “The finale at Brands Hatch saw some epic performances from both riders of our Championship winning team. Jack kept himself in a secure 2nd place in the GP2 Championship and Owen excelled by having a spell at the front of the Supersport race and showing that he on the Krämer GP2-890RR can mix it with the very best of the Supersport riders, well done Champ!

We were unlucky in race one with the weather bringing out the red flag. If this had been half a lap later,  the race would have been called giving Owen a 2nd place behind Supersport champion Jack Kennedy. We were never in doubt that the GP2-890RR could mix it with the best, and that’s what we saw at Brands Hatch. I would like to thank both riders, Owen and Jack for putting their faith in our team and delivering some epic results!

None of this would have been possible without our devoted team. I would like to say a huge thank you to all of you, starting with the ladies, Lynsey and Cindy thank you both for putting up with us all and doing so much work behind the scenes, as well as at the races. Ally as normal, put his heart and soul into not only preparing the bikes but driving the truck and setting up all the equipment - well done Ally you excelled as usual. Thanks also to Tony, Brian, Michael, Emma and Bry for being at the races and playing an important part in the Championship winning team.

Of course, none of this would have been possible without our sponsors. Without their continued support the Championship win would not have been possible.”

Thank you one and all!
Now on to 2025…. watch this space!
