BSB British GP2 | R2 Oulton Park

Another double podium for Nixon and Jenner at Oulton Park

May Bank Holiday weekend at Oulton Park BSB saw record crowds, good weather and even better racing.

Practice saw both riders improving throughout each session. Nixon unfortunately had a huge hi-side at Shell in FP2, but was thankfully uninjured. This gave Ally Grant, Crew Chief some extra work to get the bike ready for qualifying, but as usual he rose to the challenge!

Qualifying was tough for both riders and resulted in Nixon in 16th and Jenner 19th place overall on the grid, taking first and second in the GP2 category.

Race one saw a great ‘scrap’ with our team mates, who finished in positions 12th and 13th overall, with Jenner taking first GP2 slot and Nixon 2nd. Throughout the race both riders made steady progress with lap times, which were coming down and competing with the fast Supersport riders up in front.

Race two on Monday witnessed a stunning ride from Jenner, who came up through the pack and finished 10th overall and first in GP2. Nixon was running with Jenner throughout the race, until he started to suffer arm pump on the final laps. Although only a couple of seconds behind, Nixon was relegated to 14th overall and finished 2nd place in GP2.

Overall the weekend results were extremely positive with two double podiums and great progress made on the bike setups. Nixon and Jenner are showing the Championship that they can run with the more powerful Superspot bikes, even though GP2 bikes are limited to 132bhp in comparison to Supersport bikes who have up to 145bhp. This alone shows the capabilities of the superior Krämer chassis and the KTM 890 engine characteristics.

Team owner Eddie Roberts comments; “The team did a fantastic job at Oulton, Owen and Jack are really getting to grips with the bikes. All credit to Ally, Bryan, Bry Bayes, Tony, Lynsey and Sharron for turning out the best looking and sounding bikes out there. Great team spirit that makes it all worthwhile. Round 3 Donington Park in a couple of weeks…. bring it on.”

As always, a huge thank you to this years sponsors and supporters: Build Maintain Refurb, Plastic Parts Direct, Krämer Motorcycles GmbH, Motul Oils, PT Hire, GB Racing Protection, Technicolour and Hel Performance.
