BSB British GP2 | R8 Cadwell Park

Winning the Championship at Cadwell Park

Round eight of the 2024 Bennetts British Superbike Championship headed to Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire over the Bank Holiday weekend with the Krämer team in good spirits for a positive result.

Free practice on Saturday was stop start due to red flags and weather conditions, making getting steady laps times challenging. The qualifying session on Sunday went smoother, resulting in Jenner in 16th and Nixon in 18th on the grid for race one later that afternoon.

Race one saw both riders get off to a good start. Jenner held his own during the race and finished in 12th with a fastest lap time of 1:30.5. Unfortunately, after making a good start, Nixon was crashed out by another rider on lap three at Charlies, a very fast corner, leading on to Park Straight. Nixon was a little beaten up from the incident, but no major injuries cleared him for the second race on Monday.

The Bank Holiday sunshine saw an amazing turnout on the banks of Cadwell Park on Monday for race two. Nixon was still suffering from the incident in race one and made the decision not to race. Although disappointing, the Krämer team fully support and agreed with his decision and wish him a speedy recovery for Oulton Park in a couple of weeks.

Race two proved to be very rewarding for Jenner. After steady lap times throughout the race and some overtaking opportunities, Jenner pulled put in one of his faster lap times in the final laps and beat Durham to the line in the final corners, seeing him come in 14th overall and 1st in the GP2 class.

This result, added to his winning streak, officially made him Quatrro Group British GP2 Championship Winner with a 174 point lead on teammate Nixon and only 170 points remaining up for grabs in the coming rounds. Overall Jenner has performed outstandingly throughout the season, achieving a total of 16 podiums and 15 wins so far and we still have three rounds to go.

Team owner Eddie Roberts comments; “I would like to extend my congratulations to Owen for an incredible season, and for winning with three rounds left to go. He has worked hard throughout and proved that the Krämer GP2-890RR machine can compete with the best in Supersport.”

Although having already won the GP2 Championship, the team are heading to Oulton Park in a couple of weeks for round nine.
